What is health?

The established medical definition of health is: "the absence of illness or indisposition which affects someone from outside". In reality, what is called "illness" is actually a bodily process, an attempt to partially or completely remove damaging substances from the body.

These changes (e.g. a cold, inflammation, a high temperature, diarrhoea, etc.) are not illnesses but activities undertaken by the body to free itself from harmful substances and thus regain and boost its vitality. And although these processes may not seem normal, they are the body's way of removing toxic and problematic substances.

When the usual medicines are used to "heal" these natural processes, they suppress the body's own resistance or even stop it in its tracks. Such medicines are only justifiable in acutely life-threatening situations and when no other means are available. People should do something for their health themselves. But unfortunately it doesn't come in a bottle. Years of unhealthy lifestyle therefore cannot be "healed" in a few hours.

"No doctor in the world has ever been able to give a reason why someone who is ill should be poisoned more than someone who is healthy," in the words of Dr Trall.

"The propensity for certain illnesses have their roots in the non-observance of the laws of nature." (Dr. H. M. Shelton)

For dentistry this would mean: The removal of caries is actually a belated emergency operation. Correct care, regular check-ups and a healthy diet are the preferred means of treatment.
