the underestimated danger for teeth and body
What is the actual meaning of:
Gingivitis
- Gingiva means gums.
- The suffix "-itis" always stands for inflammation.

Parodontitis
- The prefix "peri" means "around something".
- "Odont" or "dent" stands for "tooth".

- The suffix "-itis" again stands for "inflammation".
- Parodontitis is therefore a deep-seated inflammation around the tooth which also breaks down the supporting bone and endangers the stability of the tooth.
- 95% of all adults between the ages of 30 and 65 are affected
- 85% are milder cases (4-5mm-deep gingiva-pockets in the gum)
- 15% are serious cases (over 5mm-deep gingiva-pockets)
- Even in milder cases, some areas are seriously affected
