WHAT IS holistic dentistry?
Holistic dentistry developed from the knowledge that trouble with the teeth and the jaws can lead to serious health problems in other parts of the body. It deals with the interactions within the whole body, for which purpose holistic (integrativ)dentists acquire additional knowledge in other fields of medicine.
Teeth are not to be seen as isolated entities in the oral cavity. As every part of the body is cross-linked to every other part, it is not surprising that there are connections from the teeth to all organs in the body, and vice versa.
There is clear evidence in our daily work at the surgery to confirm these interconnections. Often it is, for example, root-canal treated teeth that interfere via energy channels – called meridians – with the way the organs function, even if from the X-ray image of the tip of the root no obvious focal infection is discernable.
Holistic dentistry takes these interconnections between the teeth and the rest of the organism into consideration. It strives to remove all disorders from the body that are caused by the teeth. In addition, another important aim of holistic dentistry is to carry out dental treatment in such a way, if possible, that it does not cause any further problems to the body. This is achieved, for example, by removing electrical mouth battery effects or by using materials with an optimum biological compatibility, of course after individual compatibility testing has previously been carried out.
"Mouth battery" is the term used for the "electrical battery effect" that arises when different metals are present in the oral cavity (e.g. amalgam and gold). The electrically conductive saliva allows the flow of very weak galvanic currents which release baser metals (e.g. mercury from amalgam fillings) in the mouth.
Holistic dentists put what happens locally in the teeth and jaws into a holistic context. In order to ascertain these interconnections between focal infection in the teeth and jaws and problems with the organs, extensive tests are carried out.
Holistic dentistry assumes that all materials brought into the mouth may have long-term effects on the body, in the sense of chronic-toxic, allergic and electrical impacts.
In short:
- definitely no amalgam in the mouth under any circumstances
if possible, no metal at all, not even with implants, because every metal can prove to be a problem for the organism.
Our goal is to improve the overall health of our patients via healthy teeth.

Dead teeth cause a wide variety of diseases
In a dead tooth – even when the root canal has been correctly filled – there is still enough space for putrefactive bacteria to decompose the remaining dead organic substance and to form highly toxic metabolites

Root end surgery does not solve the problem
When a dead tooth is recognised as the source of a problem, we know from experience that the end of the root is the main culprit because it is mainly in the side root canals that colonies of putrefactive bacteria nestle.

Root fragments
When a dead tooth is pulled, the end of the root can break off, especially when bacteria have already started decomposing the root.
